Media Center Hours
The John I. Smith K-8 Media Center operates on an open, flexible schedule to provide maximum access to all students, staff members and parents.
The Media Center is open from 8:30 a.m. until 3:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. We are closed every day for lunch from 11:30am-12:30 pm at both campuses.
- Second through Fifth grade students are permitted to come to the Media Center throughout the day individually or in small groups to complete class assignments, do research, or to check out books.
- Pre-Kindergarten, Kindergarten and First Grade students visit the Media Center once a week as a class with their teacher to check out their book.
- Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten students may check out one book at a time.
- Sixth, Seventh, and Eight grade students will be visiting the MLC Media Center throughout the day individually, in small groups, or with their teacher.
- First Grade through Eighth grade students may check out two books at a time.
There are some policies which we want you to be familiar with so that we may have a successful year.
- Books are checked out for two weeks and can be renewed for an additional week.
- All books and materials will be fined five cents per day when they are late. Students and Parents with an overdue book or with fines totaling more than $1.00 on their record are restricted from borrowing any more books until the book is returned and the fine is paid.
- Please remind you child that all books are to be treated properly: do not write in books, tear pages, tear barcodes or label off books, or allow them to get wet. Books that are lost or damaged must be paid for.
- If your child has a fine for a lost book from the previous year he/she will not be able to check any materials until the matter is settled. However, if a book is paid for, but later found, the book will become the property of the student. We are unable to refund money if a book is found due to internal auditing policies. Students and parents will be able to check out books as soon as the bottom portion of this letter is returned and they receive their library card.

El Centro de Medios John I. Smith K-8 opera en un horario abierto y flexible para brindar el máximo acceso a todos los estudiantes, miembros del personal y padres.

Hay algunas políticas con las que queremos que se familiarice para que podamos tener un año exitoso.
- Los libros se prestan durante dos semanas y se pueden renovar por una semana más.
